REVISED DATE FOR THE SOCIETY'S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Because of the severe weather (which would have made access to the Cross Barn very hazardous), the Society's AGM has been postponed from 8 January and will now take place on Friday 12 February, starting at 7.30 for 7.45 p.m.

That evening was scheduled to feature a talk about "Aspects of Alton History (including the tragic tale of 'Sweet' Fanny Adams)" by Tony Cross, Curator of the Curtis Museum in Alton, but we have asked Tony to come back instead on one of our programmed dates in the early autumn.

The AGM will include the election of the Society's Officers and Members of the Executive Committee, as well as the Chairman's Review of the Past Year.    It offers a major opportunity for members to question the Society's Committee and also put forward suggestions for the Society's activities in the future.

After the formal business of the AGM is complete, the Society's Chairman, Dr Ted Johns, will give a presentation with the intriguing title, "From Cold Wet Fish to SUSHI:   It's People Who Make the Difference".     Essentially, this will argue that it's people who drive change forward, rather than ideologies or ideas - and fortunately, as the Darwin Awards show, some people remove themselves from the evolutionary chain before they have a chance to prevent progress from happening.

We hope to see  you there on the 12th, where you can be assured of a warm welcome - and a free glass of delicious wine.

Objectives of the Society

To this end the Society represents the interests of members and the wider community in local planning and other issues, while seeking to stimulate public interest and participation in its work through publications, talks, visits, events, exhibitions and historical research.
